The midfield star is having to self-isolate for 14-days following Southampton ace Stuart Armstrong testing positive for coronavirus.

Arsenal ace and former Celtic hero Kieran Tierney will also have to observe the self–isolation period.

A Celtic club statement read: “Following today’s news regarding Ryan Christie, he has reiterated his adherence to all relevant protocols while on International duty.

“In light of this, Celtic confirmed today that it aims to open dialogue with the Scottish Government and other authorities to fully understand the self-isolation procedures for those players who continue to deliver negative test results, as Ryan has.”

Christie added: “I am so disappointed by the events of today and the potential effects this could have on my country and club.

“As I have operated within these protocols for such a long time now, I am well aware of all the rules and social distancing from team mates has become the norm and something I have observed.

COVID NIGHTMARE Celtic ace Christie OUT of Rangers game and Tierney also in isolation after Scotland mate Armstrong contracts Covid

“The situation is very frustrating, particularly as I don’t believe I have done anything wrong.”

It comes as Odsonne Edouard is almost certainly OUT of Celtic’s clash with Rangers and may not even be able to fly back to Scotland until the day of the game.

The Hoops striker tested positive yesterday for Covid-19 while on France Under-21 duty.

That cast a massive doubt over his ability to play in the first Old Firm match of the season on Saturday October 17.

Parkhead chiefs had been left unsure whether Edouard would need to self-isolate for seven days as is the rule in France – or for ten days as is the UK regulation.

But SunSport understands he won’t now be allowed to return to Scotland for ten days from the day of testing.
